FDC Throws Out VP Ssebugwawo

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has finally reacted to the Ministerial appointment of its Vice president Joyce Naboosa Ssebugwawo.

This comes after she formally accepted President Yoweri Museveni’s offer to join his bandwagon cabinet as State Minister for ICT and has since voluntarily resigned as the deputy of FDC.

In a statement released by the party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi , Ssebugwawo violated the FDC constitution when she accepted the appointment.

“I can confirm that she has accepted the appointment and as a result has offended Article 12 of the FDC Constitution. She, therefore, ceases to be a member of FDC and has accordingly voluntarily relinquished her position as Deputy President,” Amuriat said.

He says the party will in the next 2 weeks announce an interim Deputy President .

Amuriat says she made a personal decision to dump FDC for an enemy without consulting in a critical time of struggle to liberate the country.

”Her decision to leave the party in order to join our tormentor is purely personal and the organs of the FDC were never consulted,” he added.

However her expulsion from the party has not gone without appreciation for the work she put into its growth for a period spanning 20years .

Ssebugwawo was among the surprise inclusions on Museveni’s cabinet list as she has for long been a strong pillar in the opposition circles.

Amuriat has described Ssebugwawo as a committed and hardworking person who worked tirelessly to grow and build a solid opposition party.

“All of you will appreciate the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Owek. Joyce Naboosa Ssebugwawo put into the formation, growth, and running of the party over the last more than 20 years of her political life. e said

He has also asked the public to respect her decision and avoid attacking her.

Ssebugwawo served in the FDC for over 20 years as a former National Chairperson, deputy president, and former mayor Rubaga Division aseat she lost to NUP during the 2021 general polls.

An aunt to Queen Sylvia Nagginda of Buganda ,Ssebugwawo was also a former minister in the Buganda government.

She joined the Buganda government in early 1980s where she have worked as a Minister for women, community work and mobilization.
