PHOTOS: 86 Arrested from Levels, Garage Bars in Curfew Enforcement

Police on Wednesday morning arrested a total of 86 revelers who were found in bars past curfew time and flouting Covid19 Standard Operating Procedures.

President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday emphasized that all bars are to stay closed and that night curfew would remain at 9:00PM as part of the means to curb the alarming spread of the Covid19 pandemic in the country.

Police would later warn that night operations were to intensify to make sure the President’s directives are adhered to.

“The territorial Police at Kampala Metropolitan has conducted an operation and a total of 36 revelers have been arrested from Levels Lounge Located in Kamwokya,” Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said on Wednesday night.

“The suspects include 14 women and 22 men,” he added.

Barely an hour after Owoyesigire’s announcement, a whistle blower tipped of Police about another bar in Ntinda dubbed Garage bar.

The bar has risen to fame for having large crowds of people in the recent months during which most bars were closed.

Following the tipoff, Police swung into action, raided the bar and arrested at least 50 people.

“50 people were last night arrested from the Garage Bar located in Ntinda Kigowa after a tipoff,” Owoyesigire said on Thursday morning.

“They are currently detained at different police stations in the division and will also be arraigned in court today for fines.”

The partnership deal that was signed on Friday Morning at Kati-Kati restaurant will see 1XBET Uganda firm hand 113,860,000 shillings to the management of the Tooro United.

“Unveiling 1XBET Uganda our Sponsor. #TooroUnitedFC Determined than never before,” the club announced on their social media channels.

The Fort Portal based side was promoted from the FUFA Big League to the Uganda Premier League on Sunday after they beat Kigezi Home Boys at Wankulukuku stadium.

With the new partnership with 1xBet, the company will have a big boost that will aid them do all the needed tours across the country and be able to clear player salaries.

Robina Nabbanja Becomes Uganda’s First Female Prime Minister

Parliament has approved the appointment of Kakumiro District Woman Member of Parliament Robina Nabbanja as Prime Minister and Head of government business.

Nabbanja who has been serving as the State Minister for Health in charge of General duties becomes Uganda’s 11th Prime Minister and makes history as the first female to hold the position.

She replaces Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda who has been appointed as the Special Envoy in charge of General Duties.

“Thank you for approving me as Prime Minister and I am truly grateful. I commit on the foundation laid by my predecessors ensuring availability of government business and together with the Government Chief Whip, we shall ensure that this time ministers attend Parliament sittings,” she said.

NUP’s Nubian Li, Eddie Mutwe Finally Granted Bail

The General Court Martial has finally granted bail to Ali Bukeni better known as Nubian Li and Eddy Ssebufu also known as Eddie Mutwe, all close confidants of National Unity Platform principal Robert Kyagulanyi.

The duo has been under incarceration having been arrested in November 2020 as Presidential campaigns heated up over charges related to possession of fire arms.

They had been seeking bail on many occasions but their requests were always quashed by prosecution on different grounds.

Recently, General Court Martial Chairman Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti released 14 of the arrested members of the NUP on grounds that they were sick and needed medical attention which they couldn’t get in prison.

21 others were however sent back to jail.

In today’s session, The Tower Post understands that a total of 18 people were freed at a non-cash bail of UGX 20million each.
