Police has shot two members of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s team, The Tower Post reports.

The two, according to preliminary reports include renowned producer Dan Magic and Afande Kato one of his Police guards who heads the security details assigned to the candidate by the Electoral Commission.

The Police guard was shot in the head while producer Dan Magic was shot in the mouth.

Bobi Wine was campaigning in Kayunga District, Central Uganda but abandoned the campaign to chauffer his injured team members to the hospital.

He was supposed to hold a rally this morning in Kayunga, but police dispersed the huge crowds following him, and chaos ensued.

They were taken to Nazigo Health III centre for emergency treatment before being transferred to Kampala.

“We are not going to give up. We are going to Jinja from here. It is our right to campaign and I wonder why the Electoral Commission is quiet when they released a roadmap that we are following,” Bobi Wine said.

We Are Leaving But Not Leaving – Police on Vacating Bobi’s Premises

The order by the High court in Kampala directing the Uganda People’s Defence Force – UPDF and the Uganda Police to vacate Robert Kyagulanyi’s premises might have fallen on deaf ears, The Tower Post has learnt.

Police says they will leave Kyagulanyi’s home but will keep a close eye out on all his movements so that he isn’t tempted to break the law.

“We shall maintain surveillance to ensure he doesn’t break the law. We have to ensure security is maintained since it is our prerogative to ensure we detect and prevent crime,” Enanga said.

According to Police spokesperson CP Fred Enanga, this constant surveillance on Bobi Wine is in a bid to stop him from leaving his premises to create chaos because of the recently concluded presidential elections, something intelligence agencies have referred to as Plan B. This is also an effort to keep the legislator safe.

The directive to vacate Kyagulanyi’s premises was issued on Monday morning following the hearing of a motion by NUP lawyers challenging his house confinement.

Bobi Wine has been held under house confinement since Thursday January 14th, with Police claiming they are preventing him from causing chaos in the capital city.

Minister Baryomunsi Guards Accused of Shooting Candidate’s Agent

Chris Baryomunsi, the State Minister for Housing is under fire in Kanungu District where his military guards are being accused of shooting and seriously injuring an agent of an Independent candidate in the recently concluded LC5 elections.

Andrew Musinguzi, an agent of candidate Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo claims that while travelling on a bodaboda on the eve of last Wednesday’ election, he was stopped by a vehicle with government number plates before military escorts of Dr Baryomunsi, who is also the Kinkiizi East MP, emerged and shot him in the hip.

Musinguzi says the incident occurred near Kanungu Police Station at around 8pm on January 19th 2021.

He says a Toyota Prado, carrying Dr Baryomunsi’s worker called Kafanta Mugisha and his agent Rogers Niwagaba as well as the minister’s guards stopped him; and that when Mugisha saw him he said he was the person they were looking for.

“Mugisha told the guards in the Prado; ‘These are the boys.’ The man (in the vehicle) wearing an army jacket pulled a pistol and shot me twice as we tried to turn back on the motorcycle. I fell in the drainage channel. The attackers drove away. The bodaboda man who was carrying me ran for his life,” said Musinguzi.

Musinguzi says he later called a friend who took him to Kanungu Health Centre IV.

He added that he reported the matter at Kanungu Police Station but that nothing has been done yet.

However, Dr Baryomunsi denied any role in the incident, saying he was not a candidate in the local council elections.

He Kanungu RDC, Hajji Shafique Ssekandi vowed to investigate the matter to its logical conclusion.

“The accused persons had no authority to monitor the electoral process. I wonder why his security people accumulated all that anger to start shooting at people in an election that was not for their boss,” he said.
