West Nile: Police Applauded for Safeguarding NRM Primary Elections

Uganda Police Force on Monday applauded its uniformed men and women from the West Nile region for professionally managing the just concluded nationwide NRM primaries for Members of Parliament and Women representatives.

According to Police, political actors and security officers in the region ensured that all the laws and lawful procedures were followed throughout the process of elections.

“In a special way, we would like to appreciate all the Police officers attached to the Region in their respective ranks and positions, for the great job well done before during and after elections. From the districts of Pakwach up to Adjumani, the exercise was successful and ended peacefully,” said West Nile regional spokesperson SP Josephine Angucia.

She further noted that even in the hotly contested districts of Koboko and Adjumani where violence was anticipated, the exercise went on peacefully and “appreciation goes to the unit Commanders plus their staffs, aspirants and the electorates.”

Angucia said that the minor issues and interferences that were reported to police were handled on time as others were forwarded to the rightful offices for further management.

She advised those with complaints and petitions citing irregularities to approach the rightful offices for investigation and proper management of their issues.

Regarding the coming LC 5 and mayoral primaries, Angucia urged the public to exhibit the same spirit that they showed on Friday.

On Covid-19, the law enforcement body maintains that they will ensure that the set Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by Ministry of health be followed by all throughout the period of elections to prevent the spread of the disease.

“The Uganda police force, therefore, remains a non-partisan pro-people force, who are committed to performing their duties as enshrined under article 212 of the Constitution of Uganda professionally, and cooperate with the various political actors and stakeholders in West Nile/North West Nile regions to ensure peace and security throughout the period of elections,” Angucia said
