Just a few days after violence was witnessed in NRM primary elections in Sembabule district that led to the cancellation of voting in some constituencies such as Mawogola North and Mawogola west, leaders from the district have been summoned to a meeting with President Museveni scheduled for Thursday.

According to the letter signed by Sembabule Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Nickson Kabuye, the summoned leaders include the district chairperson, the NRM district chairperson, all Members of Parliament, all aspirants for the position of Member of Parliament, all sub county chairpersons (LC IIIs), and all NRM sub county chairpersons.

“I have been directed to inform and invite you for a meeting with His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda. The meeting will take place on Thursday September 10, 2020, at State House Entebbe,” said the RDC in a letter.

Although the agenda of the meeting is not yet known, it should be noted that the NRM Electoral Commission chairman Dr Tanga Odoi cancelled voting in Mawogola North and Mawogola West constituencies in the recently concluded NRM primary elections over violence.

In Mawogola North, two of the contestants are both close to the first family.

Shartis Musherure, who happens to be the daughter of Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa and Godfrey Aine Kaguta who happens to be President Museveni’s younger brother are vying for the same position.

Kutesa was recently quoted saying that he has interest in the Mawogola North election because he is tied to both candidates.

“One of the contenders is my daughter (Shartis Musherure) while the other is my in-law (Godfrey Aine Kaguta),” Kutesa said recently.

In Mawogola West, one of the contenders Hanifah Kawooya was allegedly beaten by her political rivals’ supporters which prompted Tanga Odoi to cancel the election.
