Luzira Grade one Magistrate Carol Kabugho has convicted a 15 year old boy with robbery after he pleaded guilty to having stolen a tablet valued at six hundred thousand shillings from a one Besize Prossy.

This juvenile is said to have committed the offence with another person who is on remand at Kitalya Prison with others still at large.

On July 11, 2020, at midday in Muntungo, Nakawa Division Kampala District, Besize Prossy was using her tablet (Techno in make) when she was approached by three people including the convict, who grabbed the gadget and took off with it.

After reporting to Police, CCTV footage of the area cameras was reviewed by Police and the people who appeared in the scene were identified.

Two were arrested and later the phone was recovered from a one Nyonyintono Alex who claimed that he had purchased it from the accused persons at Shs 70,000 (seventy thousand shillings).

Although the prosecution had asked court to grant this boy a deterrent sentence, the magistrate has declined due to a number of factors.

“The convict has not wasted court’s time, he is young and therefore he still has a chance to reform. I therefore sentence him 10 days of community service where he will spend 10 hours per day,” the Magistrate ruled.

She added that failure to do so, he will have to serve a two months sentence at Kampiringisa.

She also ordered the remand home superintendent to work on the resettlement plans of the convict as soon as he concludes serving his sentence.
