You Failed Your People – Ayume Slams Minister Anite

Charlese Ayume, the NRM flagbearer elect for Koboko constituency MP seat has accused the incumbent area MP and Junior Privatisation Minister Hon Evelyn Anite of letting down her constituents.

Mr Ayume floored Anite in the hotly contested race for the NRM flag 8,089 to 7,321 votes according to the unconfirmed results from the West Nile district.

Speaking to NBS about his victory, the soft-spoken son of former Attorney General, late Francis Ayume said Minister Anite had not done enough to bring government development programs to her people.

He cited the recently launched Emyooga program which is under Anite’s Ministry but was unheard of in Koboko.

“This (program) is housed within the Ministry of Finance and the minister of Microfinance presides over it; I am sure he sits on the same floor with Hon Evelyn Anite. But probably 98% of the people in Koboko I spoke to had never heard about this initiative,” he said.

Regarding Anite’s claims that he had support from the opposition parties, Ayume said this was a good thing.

“It is not my fault that I am admired by the opposition; the fact that the opposition thinks that I am the lesser evil that Anite gives me a lot of confidence,” he said.

Ayume who described the Minister as “too loud” also claimed that she had refused to pick his calls after the election.

“I tried to call her to tell her that that “pole” and that I am ready to work with her, but she had been snubbing my calls.”

Ayume also challenged Anite to contest as an independent in next year’s general elections, saying he would floor her again.

However, while speaking earlier to Chimpreports, Anite conceded defeat and said she had not intention of unning as an independent.

“How should I stand as an independent? For what? I can’t waste my time. I am not desperate. I can’t go for desperate measures,” she said
