New Chief Registrar Langa Assumes office, Tipped on Better Management Skills

The newly appointed Chief Registrar Sarah Langa has on Friday September 4, 2020, received instruments of power from Tom Chemutai who has been occupying this office since 2019 under acting capacity.

Officiating at the ceremony held at Judiciary headquarters in Kampala, the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo described Langa as a very hard working person who will serve beyond expectations.

“Your honeymoon is ending today at this handover ceremony. When we are done here, we expect you to start off with work,” Dollo said.

He asked the Chief Registrar to always make consultations before taking any decision describing it as a tool which has enabled him to improve his career in the Judiciary.

Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary for the Judiciary revealed that the appointment of a female Chief Registrar is a big milestone for Judiciary especially in matters of gender equality, the issue he has advocated for throughout his stay at the Judiciary.

“I am not only happy to have another female Registrar, I am also delighted that Sarah is a young lady with integrity basing on her track record,” said Bigirimana.

Principal Judge Flavian Zeija applauded the outgoing Acting Registrar Tom Chemutai as a very hard working person who worked hard to ensure that work continues smoothly as they awaited the appointment of another registrar.

He asked Langa to ensure that she makes timely response on all issues raised by judicial officers so that they may not lose morale and zeal to serve the people.

“When somebody complains on a matter like lack of enough furniture, even if there is no money, explain to them why it’s like that instead of keeping the complaint for years without any response,” Zeija advised.

Langa, on assuming office, thanked all her mentors and promised not to ashame them as she implements her appointments.

“Ever since I joined the Judiciary in 2005, I have been able to work in various departments under supervision of numerous judicial officers. I commit that I am ready to perform this duty with passion and with the help of the strong foundation of my predecessors,” Langa pledged.

The outgoing Acting Chief Registrar Tom Chemutai, reported that during his term in office, they managed to register a number of achievements like the enactment of the Judiciary Administration bill while a number of lawyers were enrolled on top of renewing practicing certificates of advocates.

He thanked the Judiciary administration and staff for the support which enabled him to reach far as per personal and joint achievements.
