One of the employees of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has tested positive for covid-19 following a similar incident in June this year where four workers tested positive the virus.
In a statement released this evening by KCCA, the tests were made from an exercise which was carried out by the Authority to establish the status of its employees as concerns the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The testing exercise was conducted by the Ministry of Health at KCCA headquarters. The results that were returned on September 1, 2020, reported one positive case at headquarters – city hall,” the statement reads in part.
The statement also indicates that in response to the above matter, the staff has been counseled and evacuated to a designated medical center for appropriate treatment.
“While the covid-19 surveillance team conducts tracing of all possible contacts, KCCA appeals to the public to observe safety protocols as guided by Ministry of Health,” the statement further reads.
It’s only through adhering to these guidelines, the Authority stated, that people will keep themselves and others at their various work places safe.
On June 5, 2020, work operations came to a standstill at the City Hall when four people suspected to be covid-19 positive were sent into isolation by a team from the Ministry of Health.
On June 8, the Minster for Kampala Hon Betty Amongi issued a directive requiring all employees of KCCA to go into self-isolation for 14 days, a move that was greatly opposed by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
