Former Kampala Central Division Mayor, Godfrey Nyakana, one of the aspiring Candidates for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) card, has officially withdrawn from the race a few days to the party primaries.

This has been revealed by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson who informed journalists on Tuesday that he has received a letter from Nyakana confirming the development.

“Honourable Nyakana has written to the Commission withdrawing his candidature from Kampala Mayoral race over personal reasons,” said Odoi.

Odoi has also clarified that Hon. Urban Tibamanya from Kashari County in Mbarara has also withdrawn from the race.

In the recently concluded Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections for NRM, Nyakana and Salim Uhuru, were defeated by Singh Katongole on the position of Vice Chairperson  for Kampala.

The mayoral race for NRM now has Daniel Kazibwe aka Ragga Dee, Bogere Masembe and Ssebaana Kizito.

Other candidates eyeing  the same seat in the forthcoming general elections include the incumbent Erias Lukwago, Musician Joseph Mayanja (Chameleone), Latif Ssebagala and Al Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebagala.
