Katwe Police division is investigating an incident in which a woman was burnt severely under unclear circumstances.

This happened on Wednesday August 26, at Boston Zone, Makindye Division, Kampala City.

According to Police, it’s alleged that on that day at around 1 am, a woman identified as Jessica Muhaweimana was walking and met a group of young boys who demanded money from her, which she didn’t have and as such didn’t offer anything.

“They made an alarm, claiming that she is a thief. The crowd gathered and took the law into their hands by assaulting her and later on they burnt her,” said police in a statement released on Saturday.

“The mob claimed she was burnt on suspicion that she had stolen matooke belonging to a one Maama Dora, who is under arrest as of now,” Police added.

So far, two suspects have been arrested on charges of attempted murder.

The victim was rushed to Kiruddu National Referral Hospital in a critical condition where she is still in the Intensive Care Unit.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said that although they have arrested two suspects, detectives are still tracing for other accomplices.

“We appeal to the community not to take the law into their hands,” he added.
