The Ministry of Health has Friday unveiled 10 newly installed Intensive Care Unit beds in Lira, 8 at Lira Regional Referral Hospital and the other 2 at the Lira University Hospital.
The exercise, led by Dr Ruth Aceng together with other officials in from the Ministry, is intended to support the Covid-19 response and emergency medical services according to Dr Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary.
This new development follows the Ministry of Health’s technical support supervision which has been ongoing in Lango sub region and has been concluded today.
The Ministry of Health officials also inspected the new Lira University teaching hospital and commissioned their intensive care unit.
During the commissioning session, Dr Atwine said, “Such universities should focus on sowing a mindset and culture among medical students of good hospitality and quality services. Health is not about beautiful structures but good services.”

The equipping of health units will be done in the other regional referral hospitals as well, according to the Ministry.
“By the end of September 2020, all our 13 Regional Referral Hospitals will be fully equipped with the state of art ICU equipment,” Dr Atwine said.
She also confirmed that there is a major ongoing installation in various hospital as all the equipment landed yesterday at Entebbe airport, from Israel.
