The government of Rwanda has imposed new restriction to help contain the spread of the novel Corona Virus after cases surged with most of the numbers coming from markets in Kigali.
Last week the government announced it had closed two markets after over 200 cases were reported.
According the statement released Thursday morning, Cabinet sitting on Wednesday strengthened measures to prevent COVID-19. These included curfew hours being brought ahead to start at 7 pm
“Movements are prohibited from 7PM to 5AM,” part of the cabinet statement released this morning reads.
“Public transport between Kigali and other districts are prohibited,” the statement further reads.
However private transport between Kigali and other districts of the country, but it has been directed that “movements should be in adherence with health guidelines.”
The statement said Covid -19 preventive measures that are in place including wearing of face masks in public, regular washing of hands, social distancing among others will continue to be adhered to.
Also, accredited places of worship, as per the statement, shall operate upon compliance with Covid-19 preventive measures.
However, Schools will remain closed to allow sufficient time for a further health assessment and thorough preparedness for the resumption of in-person classes, according to the statement. Bars and nightclubs remain closed.
So far, Rwanda has reported a total of 3,625 Covid-19 cases since mid-March.
1,810 have recovered while a total of 15 patients have succumbed to the viral virus.
