According to the President, government is also determined on improving on the quality of police manpower of Uganda.

“We are not only about the numbers but also quality. In 1979, we recruited graduates in the police for the first time. We said education must be part of our Police,” he said

At the same event, the Inspector General of police Okoth Martin Ochola said as a force, they’re working on reorganizing deployment based on sub county model and equipping it with appropriate tools as well as improving on the communication both internally and with the community.

To the graduands, Mr Ochola told them that policing is a rewarding carrier but the rewards are to those who are disciplined, committed, patriotic and patient.

“As young and new members of the force, consider yourselves fortunate to have been selected and entrusted to serve. You have joined the noble profession that calls for continuous training and sacrifice,” Ochola said

On discipline, Ochola told the new officers to always distinguish themselves through carrying out their duties with integrity, honesty and respect to authority.

“You must adhere to every norm, rule and law that covers your operations. Your loyalty as a police officer is to the state and government that you serve,” said Ochola

Adding that “The government has invested so much in you and we expect you to serve the people of this country.”

He also appealed them to remain healthy and enforce the Covid19 standard operating procedures.
