Police in Kabale district on Wednesday evening dispersed supporters of Rtd. Major General Sabiiti Timothy Mutebile, the former Commander of the Engineering Brigade of the UPDF who is running for Kabale Municipality parliamentary seat, for holding illegal procession which is against the Covid 19 prevention guidelines.
Police also intercepted and impounded motor vehicle registration number UBD 363C, which was carrying a music system playing Rt Maj Gen Mutebile’s campaign songs in the procession.
The gathering involved especially boda boda riders and other supporters, carrying posters of candidate Mutebile.
The Kigezi region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says Police dispersed the procession because it had attracted many people.
He added that almost all the supporters in the procession had no face masks and were not observing social distancing.
The driver of the impounded truck, Maate says, escaped and is being hunted by police, as well as those who organized the rally.
