Police in Soroti have today carried out an intelligence led operation and arrested two men who were seen offloading suspected stolen cattle as revealed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police Ongom David Mudong, East Kyoga.
“Obwalatum Micheal aged 22 years, a resident of Acetgwen Parish within Soroti City and Egadu Kenneth aged 32 years, a resident of Cell D, Moruapesur Ward within Soroti City were seen offloading suspected stolen cattle and the witness informed police,” he said.
In a statement, Mudong revealed that, Edagu and Obwalatum attempted to drive off after seeing the patrol vehicle but they couldn’t elude the police and were later arrested.
“On seeing the police patrol vehicle, they attempted to drive off but were intercepted at Kichinjaj Ward. Their vehicle Reg. No. UAV 649 E was driven to police,” he added.
According to Mudong, Police searched the vehicle and recovered a toy pistol and spare tyres smeared with fresh cow dung.
The two are facing charges of theft of cattle vide SD Ref. 05/19/8/2020 and they will be undr police custody as investigations into the matter continue.
It should be note that cases of cattle rustling have recently sprung up again in the Karamoja region and the surrounding areas. Wrangles, risky raids and fire exchange incidents have dominated the wave, leading to loss of lives and other victims sustaining severe injuries as per various Police reports.
