Seventeen members of Gen Henry Tumukunde’s campaign team have been charged with violating the guidelines for control of Covid-19.

The group, who were arrested in Nansana Town last Thursday, appeared before Wakiso Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and were charged with doing an act likely to spread infection of a disease, which they denied.

They are Frank Kigozi, Mathias Kato Mawejje, Gabira Gonzaga, Ivan Kazibwe, Robert Birungi, Lawrence Ssempa Ssebuuma, Tophar Nalikiriza, and Sylvia Kikyankya,

Others are: Gorreti Batenga, Musa Ssenyonga, Ashraf Ssendegeya, Ivan Kayondo, Stephen Ankunda, and Nanfuka Namusisi.

They then applied for bail through their lawyers, which court was still looking into by press time.

This comes a day after Gen Tumukunde was arrested from Buikwe Municipality where he was set to meet his campaign teams.

The Presidential hopeful that recently launched a political pressure group was allegedly picked from Royale Paradise Hotel on Kayunga Road, Njeru Division.

Ssezibwa regional police spokesperson Hellen Butoto said Gen Tumukunde was charged with doing an act most likely to spread infectious diseases. But his lawyer Shafik Dembe says his client had followed all the COVID-19 guidelines.

Dembe added that the Electoral Commission is aware of Tumukunde’s nationwide consultative meetings on his presidential ambitions after he picked nomination forms
