The Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has summoned presidential aspirant, Rtd Lt. Gen Henry Tumukunde to appear at its headquarters in Kibuli on Wednesday without fail.
The summon were sanctioned by Director Grace Akullo vide HQTR GEF: 787/2020 and copied to the Commander of Armed forces Gen. David Muhoozi, the inspector General of Police Okoth Martin and his deputy Maj. Gen Sabitti Muzeeyi.
Director Akullo said CID is investigating Gen. Tumukunde on various counts in which he is needed for interview and statement recording.
“The directorate is investigating allegations to the effect that on a number of occasions at your office and residence both in Kololo and other locations within the country, you have held meetings with Army Veterans discussing issues related to politics,” reads part of the summons
Police says that Tumukunde’s actions if found true, contravenes sections of the 1995 constitution and the UPDF Act.
“Persuant to section 27A of the police Act as ammended, you are summoned to appear at CID headquarters on the 19th August 2020.” Akullo said.
On Tuesday, Gen. Tumukunde, who previously served as Security Minister and spy-chief, was arrested and detained temporarily at Njeru police station.
He was holding a consultative meeting at Njeru town council.
