Members of Parliament from the National Resistance Movement party have endorsed Speaker Rebecca Kadaga for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (women) and promised to campaign for her in their constituencies.

Kadaga met the legislators from the ruling party on Thursday at Parliament, an hour before the passing of the new constituencies.

MPs from all regions took to the microphone during the meeting to declare their support for Kadaga and volunteered to mobilize for her votes.

“We are going to embark on our constituencies and reach out to all delegates to sell the name of Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga as the 2nd National Vice Chairperson,” says Ngora Woman MP, Jacqueline Amongin.

Amongin’s submission was received by ululations from all MPs in unanimous approval.

The Chairperson of Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, Johnson Muyanja, who is also MP Mukono South, promised to canvass for votes in the whole of the central region together with Ssembabule woman MP Hanifa Kawooya.

“The Speaker (Kadaga) has stood firm for the rights of women and we still want her. We shall traverse everywhere in Buganda for her votes,” said Kawooya.

MPs from other regions including Busoga, Bugishu, Teso, Bukeddi, Sebei, Karamoja, and others promised the same.

The Minister of Trade and Industries Amelia Kyambadde, who nominated Kadaga at NRM electoral commission headquarters on Monday, said Kadaga remains the best person for the job.

“The fact that Rebecca Kadaga is an advocate of the marginalized groups including the disabled, girls facing female genital mutilation and others; the fact that she has steered this impartially and many other good attributions make her the person of choice and we shall all be there for her,” said Kyambadde.
