Police Speak Out on Arrest on Charles Rwomushana

Police has said political commentator and presidential hopeful Charles Rwomushana was arrested for defying the curfew time which was instituted to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Rwomushana was picked from outside the offices of NBS TV offices in Kamwokya on Tuesday evening after appearing on a talk-show. At the time of arrest, he was with Kabula County MP James Kakooza but the latter was not arrested.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire on Wednesday said Rwomushana has been charged with disobeying presidential directives and is currently detained at Kira road police station.

He did not explain whether the suspect would be taken to court.

The NBS talk show dubbed Barometer regularly hosts Rwomushana and on Tuesday night also featured MPs Betty Nambooze, Ssemujju Nganda, James Kakooza and Fred Nyanzi. The rest of the group were forced to spend the night at the TV station to evade arrest after police
