Nomination of Special Interest Groups Village Candidates Kicks Off Today

The nomination of candidates for elections of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that include older persons, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and youth committees at the village level has started today Wednesday July 29, 2020 across the country.

The exercise will be conducted for a period of six days from today Wednesday up to next week Wednesday August 5, 2020 at all respective sub counties, town councils and municipal division headquarters beginning from 9 am to 5 pm on each weekday.

According to the statement issued by the Electoral Commission, the exercise will not be conducted over the weekend.

“We will not be conducting the exercise over the weekend. According to our guidelines, no nomination fee and academic qualifications will be required for purposes of this nomination and we have also established a national information and complaints desk to handle all the inquiries or complaints related to this exercise that may arise during this period,” the statement read.

After the nomination, the Commission announced that, campaigns will be conducted from the August 6 to Monday August 10, 2020 and polling will take place in different dates during the month of August.

“We have a total of 68,740 villages across Uganda and we are advising all persons who are participating in the nomination exercise to comply with guidelines that we have issued for prevention of spread of COVID-19,” the Commission added.
