Four comedians known as the ‘Bizonto’ attached to Radio Simba have been released on a Court Order issued earlier today Tuesday, July 28, 2020.
Buganda road grade one magistrate Stella Amabirisi ordered security agencies to unconstitutionally release the comedians known as ‘Bizonto’ and local Kadongo Kamu artiste Gerald Kiwewa, who are on charges of promoting sectarianism.
The four comedians Sabakaki Simon, Serwanja Julius, Mbabali Maliseri, Sematono Gold Ray aka Jjajja Zonto were arrested last week after a video in which they performed a skit, went viral and was later labeled sectarian.
On Monday, the mandatory 48 hours elapsed without them being released or produced in any competent court of law which has prompted their lawyers to petition court seeking their release.
On Tuesday, Buganda road Magistrate Amabirisi issued a directive to the Inspector General of Police, Director CID and Commander Special Investigations Unit (SIU) ordering them to release the above individuals from custody.
“Its hereby ordered that Gerald Kiwewa, Sabakaki Simon, Serwanja JuliuS, Mbabali Maliseri, Sematono Gold Ray aka Jjajja Zonto who have been detained at SIU Kireka since July 24, 2020 be released unconditionally,” the magistrate ordered.
Kiwewa was also arrested last week for producing a song which “disturbed the peace of Kayunga Woman Member of Parliament Hon Aida Nantaba.”
