VIDEO: Minister Kiwanda’s Reaction On Miss Curvy Pageant

Minister of State for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda has responded to backlash he has been receiving over Miss Curvy Pageant.

Earlier this week, Hon. Kiwanda presided over the launch of Miss Curvy Pageant a move he claimed was to partly contribute to promotion of tourism in Uganda.

However, this didn’t go well with some women activists and a section of social media who criticised him for what they termed as objection of women.

While addressing the press this wednesday at Tita Resort, Moroto, Minister Kiwanda defended the theme  and said it’s also part of the ministry’s motive to promote tourism.

We are not as a ministry organizing Miss Curvy.  It’s a private initiative like Miss Tourism. It’s being organized by a company run by Ann Mungoma.
We are simply in partnership with them, but it shouldn’t be misinterpreted as us being the organizers.
Also, there are so many misconceptions.  For instance, people think that Miss Curvy is being sold as a Tourism product.  But it isn’t.  We are supporting it because it speaks to who we are as Ugandans” – Minister Kiwanda said.

Kiwanda further added  that Miss Curvy is targeting curvy women who can’t compete with slender ones in Miss Uganda contest.
